Lac Hong Univrsity – 15 years with confidence and pride in cultivating people

Established in 1997, Lac Hong was the first university in Dong Nai province. This is an indispensable trend in order to meet urgent needs for training engineering human resources of a province with fast – growing economy  especially development of industrial parks and services.

Experiencing 15 years of foundation and development and overcoming early difficulties, up to now Lac Hong University has become a prestigious training unit in Dong Nai province and in the region with nearly 20 thousand students who are attending different training systems. It quickly builds training programs suiting socio – economic development plan of Dong Nai province as well as of neighboring areas, closely associating with enterprises in human resources training and supply. To make them approach integrated economy in the region and in the world, the university builds output standards with soft skills about informatics, languages, communication skills… so as to improve students’ knowledge in the new age. It also has a policy to train students from low to high levels, offering them opportunities to take part in research activity and get higher education at home and abroad.

From two first faculties with 6 majors established in 1997, recently Lac Hong University has 11 faculties and 21 majors for undergraduates and 4 for graduates. It has regular training and non- regular training with various training systems from vocational training, college, university … to master program. This fast growth has not only satisfied Dong Nai provincial Party Committee’s and people’s expectation but also brought learning opportunities for every subject, contributing to enhancing people’s brainpower and training qualified human resources for the province.

As a non-public university, Lac Hong University has the strength of enthusiastic investors, initiative in upgrading campuses and facilities to fulfill its missions. At, present, the university has 5 spacious campuses equipped with modern equipment and experiment devices serving students’ learning and research. The university is building the six campus to make a center for high - tech experiments. The campus is expected to start operation in 2014.

Over 15 years of development, the university has grown stronger in many aspects. The training quality has been improved and it receives great appreciation from employers  as well as the whole society. The teaching staff are experienced and qualified in teaching and research. The faculty members include 439 and the majority of them are masters . Many lecturers are prestigious professors, assoc. professors and doctors in various fields. All of them join hands to build a high quality university for Dong Nai province.

The university also promotes its training closely associated with scientific research activities. Therefore, teachers and students always actively take part in research activities of the university, of the province and of the Ministry. A great number of teachers and students achieved high results in many prestigious contests. Many research topics were awarded certificates of merit by the Ministry of Education and Training. Students of the university has gained outstanding achievements in science and technology invention contests especially Robocon Vietnam and Asia Pacific Robot Contest. In addition, Lac Hong University strengthens ties with inside and outside enterprises in training and using the human resources effectively. In 2011 – 2012 alone, the university has signed 558 agreements with enterprises in human resources training and supply to study highly practical research topics and then produce technology products serving businesses inside and outside the country.

Each year, the university has averagely 1,600 graduated students and most of them hold certain positions in provincial socio economic businesses. Particularly, in 2011 – 2012, Lac Hong University has provided 2,192 qualified graduates for the labor market.

Research activity of the university has also gained notable achievements. From 2010 up to now, there are 1,630 research topics of students and 450 of lecturers. 39 scientific articles are published in international journal of science and 140 articles are published in domestic journal of science. In invention contests, students of the university have won many prizes at province and national levels such as “Vietnamese young science talents”, “VIFOTEC” (Vietnam Fund for Supporting Scientific and Technological Creations) … Especially, Robocon of Lac Hong has won championship title at Robocon Vietnam for three times (in 2010, 2011, 2012), won second prize at Asia Pacific Robot Contest for two times (in 2010 and 2012). 

Besides research activities and outstanding achievements, Lac Hong University promotes external relations. It actively establishes ties with foreign universities, educational, scientific and technological organizations in order to enhance its training and research. At present, the university has signed Memoranda of Understanding with 23 colleges and universities in Asian and European countries such as England, Germany, Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan.

Over 15 years of establishment and development, under the leadership of Rectors Assoc. Prof. Doan Van Dien, Dr. Tran Hanh and at present People’s Teacher Dr. Do Huu Tai, Lac Hong University has gained a lot of outstanding achievements. Particularly, it was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal (in 2007), the Second Class Labor Medal (in 2012),  Emulation Flag from the Prime Minister (in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011), Many of individuals and collectives were also recognized and awarded certificates of merit for their great contributions to the development of the university.

Hopefully, with practical experience and lessons withdrawn from 15 years of establishment and development, Lac Hong University will continue its effort to develop, innovate managing, teaching, learning, research activities, external relations …to become a high quality training unit of the province as well as of the country.
