Hands-on Logistics Experience: International Business Students Explore ICD Song Than

Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice Through a Field Trip to ICD Song Than

With the aim of narrowing the gap between theory and practice, on the morning of March 19, students from the International Business major under the Faculty of Administration – International Economics, Lac Hong University, participated in an insightful field trip to ICD Song Than – one of the largest logistics and inland container depot (ICD) centers in Southern Vietnam.

    1. A Close Look at the “Heart” of Logistics

Upon arriving at ICD Song Than, students were immediately impressed by the dynamic scale of operations and the professionalism in its management. This was not merely a sightseeing trip but a vivid real-world learning experience, where concepts from textbooks such as “supply chain,” “multimodal transport,” and “warehouse optimization” were clearly brought to life.

    • Customs Clearance Process: Experts explained procedures such as physical cargo inspection, container sealing, and the role of ICDs in reducing congestion at major seaports.

    • Integrated Logistics Services: Students learned about the coordination among stakeholders, including shippers, transport providers, and customs authorities, to ensure smooth international cargo flow.

    A student shared:

“This trip helped me realize that logistics is not just about transportation, but an art of coordination. Concepts like ICD operations and customs procedures, which were difficult to visualize in class, became much clearer thanks to the guidance from industry professionals.”
